Book moving from the Lake County Public Library took place over the weekend of Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, with help from
local members of the High School football and volleyball teams. The football group worked on Saturday, with the volleyball team sending members on Sunday, as the girls had a playoff game on Saturday.
Boys of the football team laughed and joked with each other as they moved books onto carts provided by a professional moving company hired for the job. The library provided snacks and water throughout the day, with certain times set aside for 10-15 minute breaks.
Earlier in the week, elementary school kids accompanied by their watchful teachers and parents walked from their Fremont school classrooms to the courthouse. Each came out with armfuls of picture books, lining up to allow the crossing guards a chance to stop the flow of traffic long enough for each class to cross the street.
Once they made it safely over F Street, the kids brought their burdens to the new library location at 26 S. G St.
Shelves were placed around the library in preparation for the two moves, showing just what was in store for the future of the building. Each of the new shelving units has a locking bookend for each section of books, which members of the athletic moving teams helped install. The new shelving quickly filled over the weekend as the old library quickly emptied.
