Local True Value store expands toy loft

The owners of the Lakeview True Value have been thinking for some time about converting a room upstairs that once served as an office into retail space.  Recently, they decided to use the room to expand their selection of toys, which occupy the rest of the space upstairs as well.

“When we were looking at the store, we talked about turning the office space into retail,” said Dan Henderson, referring to himself and his wife, Christy Henderson.  “I’ve spent 25 years in accounting driving a desk,” said Dan, “I didn’t want another office.  Originally it was turned into a break room, but nobody used it.”

So, they decided to go ahead with plans to expand their toy selection, though Dan admitted he would like to add to the selection of other products in the store.  “Nothing would really make sense to bring off the floor to put up there,” he said, “The toys made the most sense.”

The extra space has allowed the store to bring in a new line of educational handmade toys by a company called Melissa & Doug, as well as a number of board games.

“Our staff played a huge part,” said Dan, “They took out the door, and put in the pegboard and shelving.”  His wife, Christy, set up the displays, while Dan said all he did was say, “Yeah, let’s go!”

Hours at the store are 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The Lakeview True Value store is located at 4 N. E St., and can be reached by phone at 541-947-2210.
