Lorena Qualls, 90, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at home in Prineville.
She was born on July 25, 1923 in Tularosa, N.M. to John H. and Eva Wood.
Lorena grew up in the San Andreas Mountains in New Mexico, far from town. She lived a very rugged and hard life that she enjoyed very much. While she lived there she met Billy the Kid when she was 12 years old. She lived most of the rest of her life in central California, and moved to Oregon with some of her family about six years ago.
She was an artist, an avid gardener, homemaker and a great mother and grandmother. Some of her other hobbies included a love for quilting and canning.
Lorena, “Granny”, loved her family very much, and she had a quite large one in fact.
She was preceded in death by her parents John H. and Eva Wood, her three sisters Dorothy Miller, Babe Venn, Bonnie Sloan, brother Howard Wood, first husband John D. Brooks, second husband C.J. Qualls and daughter Joy Brooks.
She is survived by her son John Brooks of Hanford, Calif., three daughters, Liz Ewell of Christmas Valley, Twilight Brooks of Prineville, Diana Scherf of Mariposa, Calif., 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and many, many friends.
Arrangements were made by Baird Funeral Home of LaPine, and services were held on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2013 at the North Lake Christian Center in Christmas Valley.
