Lorraine Mae Harms

Lorraine Mae Harms, 84, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 in Lakeview.

Lorraine was born to Herbert and Hazel Stover on June 21, 1929 in Yakima, Wash. She grew up in Yakima Wash., Klamath Falls and moved to Lakeview during her high school years. She later married Leonard M. Harms, of Wilbur, Wash. on June 10, 1947 at her grandparent’s home in Poe Valley outside of Klamath Falls.

Lorraine worked on her family’s farm, and later helped her husband manage their own dairy and farm. She had a passion for the land, and raising animals. She enjoyed raising sheep, rabbits, pheasants, quail, doves, peacocks, geese, ducks, cattle, chickens, turkeys, and always had dogs, cats and horses.

She attended Lakeview First Baptist Church where she served briefly as an assistant children’s Sunday School teacher. She was a Cub Scouts leader. She was the hostess to many Blue and Gold banquets. She was active in 4-H herself and later with her children. Most of all she was a devoted Mother, babysitter and Grandma to many people during her lifetime. Over the decades more than 20 honorary children and grandchildren lived with Leonard and Lorraine. The group of honorary children consisted of short-term foster children, neighbors, friends’ children and relatives. Whatever the child’s need, the door was always open, a place at the table and a bed were waiting for them.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Harms; parents Herbert and Hazel Stover;   sons Sheldon Mendenhall, Larry Moss and Glenn Moss; son–in–law Ralph Burnes; granddaughter Jama Harms; great-grandson Dilly Harms.

She is survived by son Derek Harms of Coeur  D’ Alene, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law Robert (Bob) and Grace Harms of Lakeview; daughters Sara Harms of Ontario and Sandy Burnes of San Antonio, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Patty and Norm Redland of Ontario; brother and sister-in-law Dan and Wilma Stover of Bend; sister and brother–in-law  Alma and Ervin Moulton of Klamath Falls; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; over 20 honorary children and grandchildren.
