May 6, 2011 by

Maija Lintu, 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in Springfield.
She was born at home to John and Alma Bellikka, (both were Finnish) on May 20, 1927 in Fredonia, ND. She was the second oldest of 14 children and raised during the depression.
Maija lived a long and independent life. She lived her life on her own terms and in her own way. She had dined with governors and cowboys on the open range. Her life was filled with stories of living life to its fullest. As the story goes Maija’s great-grandmother renounced her claim of Finish nobility to come to America and marry an American. The formal nobility in Finland dates back to 1280. She could speak both Finnish and English.
During World War II she joined the Navy and worked in the shipyards. During her life she had owned a 1500 acre cattle ranch in California, a grocery store in Oakridge and managed a team of caretakers in Portland.
She loved to read and write poetry. She ended up in Lakeview because of hang gliding. She loved to watch the pilots fly. She will be missed.
Maija is survived by three sons; three daughters; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
