Marilyn J. (Marcie) Martin, 79 of Lakeview passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
She was born in Mankato, Minn. on Dec. 24, 1933 to Rex and Hazel Brown.
When she was young her family moved to Bend where her father started a furnace and sheet metal business. Marilyn attended schools in Bend until she was married at the age of 16 to Ken Johnston. Shortly after their marriage both of her parents died. She then moved to Richmond, Va. for two years while Ken was stationed there in the Army. After Ken’s discharge, they returned to Bend and had one son, Randall (Randy).
In the early 1960’s, Marilyn went to work for Gordon Randall Agency in Bend as an insurance secretary, which launched her career in insurance that spanned decades. She was very active in the Bend Eagles Lodge, where she led the J.O.E. girls group. She and Ken divorced in the early 80’s and she moved to Lakeview, where in 1985 she married Glenn Martin, Sr. and has lived ever since. Active in the Eagles Lodge, VFW, Grange and church, Marcie touched lives wherever she went. The list of people who would call her “Mom” is probably endless, as was the love she shared with everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband Glenn Martin, Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law Randall (Randy) and Kari Johnston of Cashmere, Wash., Glenn Jr. and Lilliana Martin of Mission, Texas, Peter and Yvone Martin of Olympia, Wash.; son James Martin (Jim) of Olympia, Wash.; daughter Therese (Tammy) Litzey Adams of Mission, Texas; Daughter and son-in-law Candice (Candy) and Randy Collins of San Antonio, Texas; sister Shirley Behymer of Redmond; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Monday, June 10, 2013 at Westside Cemetery.
Casket bearers were James Martin, Glen Martin, Peter Martin, Brian Martin, Randy Johnston and Kenda Johnston.
Contributions in memory of Marcie may be made to the Westside Cemetery, C/O Carla Albertson, 15188 Westside Rd. Lakeview 97630 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
