Martha Singleton McCullough departed this life on Tuesday, April 19, 2013.
She was born on July 4, 1930 to Irish immigrants John and Julia Ann Singleton.
Martha grew up in Lakeview and throughout her life remained at heart an Irish sheep rancher’s daughter.
In the 1950s, Martha graduated from St. Mary’s in San Francisco, Calif. as an RN, the beginning of a long and successful career in nursing. While working at Stanford she assisted in some of the earliest heart transplant surgeries, and was a valued nurse at many San Francisco hospitals before moving to Sonoma. At Sonoma Valley Hospital, she was head nurse in a variety of departments for many years, completing a BS in nursing while working fulltime.
She was predeceased by her sons-in-law Peter Granger, Donnie and Brian Steiner; brothers John, Jerry and Wes; sister Kathleen Singleton.
In 1952, she married Peter McCullough, and they commenced their wild journey through life together, a partnership which endured until Peter’s death in 1990. They were proud of their children who survive them: son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Melinda McCullough; son Peter McCullough; daughters and sons-in-law Janet McCullough and Eric Hansen, Nancy Granger and Charlie Tsegeletos; daughters Theresa Lee and Juliet Steiner; honorary son Pat and Cathy McKenna; sisters Mary Gavin and Peggy Kenny; grandchildren Kristian Caitlin and Dan Hansen, James Granger and Olivia Tsegeletos, Lance Cpl. Ian McCullough USMC, Erin MCullough, Lt. Nathaniel Lee USAF, Sam Lee, Max and Claudia Steiner.
Martha will be remembered for her strong will and independent spirit, her professional skill and her devotion to her family.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, April 12, 2013.
