Mary El-Leda (Rowell) Heath
Mary El-Leda Heath, 73, passed peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Ray Hickey Hospice-Peace Health in Vancouver, Wash.
Mary was born in Dallas on Oct. 18, 1940, to Agnes Catherine Rowell (Yakesh) and Eugene Allen Rowell, Sr.
She attended Dallas High School, then proceeded to Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, to earn her Bachelor of Science as she majored in Pre-med. Mary moved to Klamath Falls after OCE and worked for Oregon State Department of Human Services. When her children were in high school, she attended Oregon Institute of Technology and finished up at Umpqua Community College to earn her Nursing Degree and became a Licensed RN through the State of Oregon. Later in life she worked for the Lake District Hospital and Long Term Care facility in Lakeview. She truly enjoyed taking care of patients on the long term side of the establishment.
Mary met her future husband, James (Jim) Peter Heath while square dancing. A year later they were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls on May 14, 1966. After a brief stint in Lakeview, Mary and her husband relocated to Washington State where she gave birth to her three daughters. Mary was very dedicated to her children’s education and extra-curricular actives.
Mary’s own interests and activities varied over the years. When she was younger she square danced, hiked, painted and crocheted. Later she enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and cooking. She enjoyed genealogy, word searches, crossword puzzles, reading RN and Soap Opera magazines. There was no truer fan of ‘Days of Our Lives’ as Mary began following this soap opera when it started on the radio with Alice and Dr. Horton. She listened to her last episode on the day before she passed. Mary was also involved in the Grand Lodge/Integrity Rebekah Lodge No. 175 in Lakeview.
Mary moved to the Vancouver, Wash. area in 2011, to assisted living facilities near her daughter. While she greatly missed being together with her husband and living in Lakeview, she truly appreciated the chance to see her grandchildren Calvin, Corey, Kate and Will more often.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes C. Rowell (Yakesh); father, Eugene A. Rowell, Sr.; brothers Eugene A. Rowell, Jr. and Courtney ‘Corky’ Edward Rowell.
Mary is survived by husband of 48-years, James ‘Jim’ Heath; daughters: Dara Heath, Andra Spencer (Heath) and family, Sara Cleveland (Heath) and family, and sister, Loretta Smitch (Rowel) and family. Mary also leaves behind an assorted family all over the country that she loved dearly and followed closely.
Mary will be interned in private with her family at a later date.
