Katherine McKenzie, 17, a junior at Lakeview High School, is currently the lone tryout applying for the 2014 Lake County Rodeo Round-up Court.
The 2013 court included three members including McKenzie along with McKenna Albertson and Carly Cahill. A Rund-Up court princess previously in 2013 and a Junior Rodeo princess in 2011, McKenzie was on a horse before she could walk, growing up on the Fitzgerald Partners Ranch in Plush.
McKenzie is a member of 4-H, National Honor Society, LHS Student Council, and participates in basketball and volleyball.
“Rodeo is our culture, it is part of who we are, we thrive on it,” said McKenzie. “I like to represent the heritage of it, it is really an honor for me.”
McKenzie’s parents are Jeff McKenzie and Rosanne Fitzgerald, and she has two brothers, Colin and Daniel.
The Round-up court tryouts take place on Thursday, May 22 at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Participation in the rodeo court includes traveling to rodeos, parades, fundraising and promotion of the Lake County Round-up.
Applicants are judged on tack, appearance and riding ability, including a reining pattern, queen run and flag run.
