Melvin J. Young, 83, of Lakeview, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. He was born on Oct. 5, 1930 in Klamath Falls to George and Phoebe (Coffer) Young.
Mel served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Jeanette Mae McNair on Feb. 10, 1952.
Mel worked and managed Lakeview Lockers, was a State Brand Inspector for livestock and was a millwright for many years before he retired from Fremont Saw Mill. He was a member of the Lakeview Assembly of God Church and was active in VFW Post 4070. Mel loved rodeos, hunting, branding and time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mel was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette on Dec. 27, 1985, parents, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin J. Young, Jr. and Michelle Young of Corning, Calif., and Ray and Debbie Young of Lakeview; daughter Connie Havely of Klamath Falls; and daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Eric Erickson of Sweet Home; brother and sister-in-law Bert and Toxie Young of Lakeview and brother Robert North of Gresham; sisters Carmen Wilson of Ashland and Loretta Simpson of Medford and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at the Lake County Fairgrounds in the Exhibit Hall with interment at Westside Cemetery and a potluck/luncheon at VFW Post 4070.
Donations may be made in Mel’s name as contributions to VFW Post 4070.
