Michael Cham, 84, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013.
He was born March 10, 1929 in Ukraine to Michael and Xsenia (Nazar) Cham.
He migrated to Canada in 1930, where he attended school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mike was on the State High School Football Championship team in 1946. He played on the St. Paul’s Junior College Championship team in 1948 and for the Canadian Semi-Pro champions and the Winnipeg Legionnaires in 1952.
Mike moved to Oregon in 1968 and is a US Citizen and proud of it.
Mike owned and operated the Schooner Restaurant and Lounge in Netarts for 30 years. He also worked for Carling Brewery for 15 years prior to the Schooner.
Mike enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, swimming and was extremely proud of his Ukrainian Heritage. Mike is a long time member and past Chief Whitetail of the Order of the Antelope. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mike is preceded in death by his wife Gertrude.
He is survived by his sons Tony Cham of Netarts, John Cham of Wilsonville and Steven Cham of Netarts; daughter Carla McKinley of Spokane, Wash.; sisters Zenia Cham of Vancourver, BC and Halia Doskotch of Athens, GA.; close nephew Michael Cham of Vancouver, BC.; Nine grandchildren; Three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial and were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tillamook.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Tillamook Hospice or do a Random Act of Kindness in honor of Michael Cham.
