Michael J. Powell, 69, died at the Lake District Hospital on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 following a brief illness.
Michael was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Prineville to Jim and Marie (Leach) Powell.
He received his early education in Sutherlin and graduated from the Prineville High School in 1961. Following high school he joined the US Navy serving his country from 1961 until his discharge in 1965.
He owned his own business working as a timber faller for many years and retired as a long haul truck driver.
He was married to Leah Mae Steel in September of 1995 and the couple came to Lakeview in 1996. His favorite hobby involved woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his Father, stepson Terry Wells and step-grandson James Steel.
Survivors include his wife Leah Mae Powell of Lakeview; his mother Marie Cobine of Prineville; daughter Jamie Miles of Lakeview; four step-daughters, Dena Wells and Penny Giacomelli both of Lakeview, Rebecca Conlan of Medford and Tammy Richardson of Spray; step-son Jacob Steel of Lakeview; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Janice Powell of Prineville, Patrick and Vicky Powell of Eureka, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, a very special granddaughter, Jasmine, her sister Shasta, her brothers, Josh, Joey and their mother Rachael. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Ministries 3 N. F St. Lakeview. A reception and potluck luncheon will follow the services. The burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Westside Cemetery.
