Lake Health District recently welcomed a new chief financial officer within its ranks.
Cheryl Cornwell, who officially started on Monday, Sept. 16, replaced Ken Landau, who departed at the end of April.
Cornwell’s duties will include managing the business office of the hospital, accounting practices and overseeing medical records, purchasing and general oversight of the district’s fiscal health.
Cornwell relocated to Lakeview from Great Falls, Mont., area – namely the town of Highwood, with a population of 400 — where she worked for Great Falls Clinic Medical Center.
So moving to Lakeview and taking on new challenges with Lake Health District in the rural Lake County setting was certainly a comfortable transition.
“The fact is it was a big job in a very rural place,” Cornwell said. “I love to be busy and work hard, but in a very rural place.”
Lake District Hospital is admittedly larger and busier than her last site, where she also managed the ambulatory surgery and radiology center. Similarly as well is the prevalence of local agriculture, though in Montana wheat farming ran parallel to cattle ranching.
Born and raised in Washington state, Cornwell lived in Montana for the past 10 years.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Washington University in Ellensberg, followed by a master’s degree in business administration from City University in Seattle.
Cornwell also said that she’s picked up on a vibe in which the staff truly wish to serve the community.
