Come Saturday, July 5, Christmas Valley shall tremor with the thunder of gears, grit and mechanical fortitude, which can mean only one thing.
It’s time for the 9th annual Christmas Valley Demolition Derby, sponsored by K&A Auto.
The highly-anticipated event is a major draw for the northern Lake County Fourth of July festivities. See related story elsewhere in this edition for more information on the other goings-on taking place on Friday, July 4.
This year’s derby will begin at 3 p.m. at the Christmas Valley Rodeo Grounds and will feature two heats along with a powder puff event.
Along with a cash purse, there will also be an award issued for the ‘Most Aggressive’ driver.
The cash prize payouts for the main event are $1,500 for first place, $500 for second place and $300 for third. Entry fees are $40 per car and driver, and $10 per pit member up to four and $15 per additional pit member.
During the intermission there will also be ATV barrel races, with a $10 entry fee and split pot for first place. Proceeds from this event will benefit the North Lake fireworks fund.
Proceeds from the Demolition Derby benefit the North Lake 4H and FFA programs.
Advance tickets to the derby are $8 for adults and $4 for kids 8 to 12 years of age. At the gate, tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Under 8 are admitted free. A pit pass is $15.
Tickets are available at K&A Auto, Christmas Valley Market, SS Equipment and the North Lake fireworks stand.
