Norene O’Keeffe Alger

Norene O’Keeffe Alger, 85, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 in Lakeview.
She was born in Lakeview on Aug. 26, 1925 to Jack and Nora O’Keeffe.
Except for time she spent away for school, Norene was a lifetime Lake County resident.  She spent her early years in Adel, attended Sacred Heart Academy in Klamath Falls and Armstrong College in Berkley, Calif.
Norene married Donald ‘Bob’ Alger May 28, 1955.  For many years, she and Bob jointly owned and operated the Alger Theater and Drive-in.  Norene had a quick wit; she enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bridge and knitting.  A devoted patron of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Norene laundered and ironed altar linens for decades.  Saying the rosary was an important daily ritual for Norene, one she shared with her mother and sisters.
Norene was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Nora O’Keeffe; husband Bob Alger; son David; brother Henry O’Keeffe; sisters Marie Holland and Sara Jenene Schadler.
Survivors include sisters-in-law Theresa O’Keeffe of Adel and Reba Alger of Santa Maria, Calif.; nephews John O’Keeffe of Adel, Con O’Keeffe of Portland, Buzzy Alger of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, Christopher Alger, Kyrle Holland of Plymouth, Mass., John Holland of Kanturk-County Cork-Ireland, Shawn Schadler of Denver, Colo.; nieces Margaret Dorsett of Chico, Calif., Nora Stangel of Enterprise, Barbara Dawson of Red Bluff, Calif., Maureen Rosetti of Portland, Bridget Vaughan of Balla-County Mayo-Ireland, Nora Leonard of Castleton, NY, Connie Laverty O’Connor of Chicago, ILL., Maria Russell of Ballyhen Chareleeile-County Cork -Ireland, Catherine Vaughan of Nassa, NY, Roxanne Alger of Temecula, Calif. and Ruth Ellen Sutehall of Chula Vista, Calif.; numerous great-nieces and nephews and special friend, Arlene Clark.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Feb. 26 at Noon, followed by a luncheon at the St. Patrick parish hall.
Contributions in Norene’s memory may be sent to the Lake County Library.
