My name is Leah Harris. I have lived in this community since 2004. My husband and I have four children attending North Lake. Helping children receive the best possible education and achieve their highest potential has always been a passion of mine. I have dedicated many hours volunteering in this community. Currently, I am the board chair for North Lake School and the treasurer for the NLCSN.
During my school board service, I attended annual and summer OSBA training seminars and completed the Leadership Oregon training through OSBA. All of these trainings have benefited me and have helped me become a better more informed school board member.
This school board has also been active in revising our policy book, making sure we have all of the mandatory policies included. Along with the policy revision we are also taking a more proactive stance with the school budget. This has included extra meetings to make sure all school board members understand how and why the budget works.
Recently the school board enacted a cell phone policy that became quit controversial. I felt that the possibility for student use of cell phones for cheating, cyber-bullying and sexting are too much of a risk to allow unregulated use by students during the school day. I feel that our cellphone policy will help shape our students moral and ethical character.
The school board has encouraged law enforcement officers to bring a trained drug dog into our school to search for illegal drug presence. Random drug testing of student athletes has also been mandated by your school board. Actions like these have helped deter drug activity on our campus.
I urge you to vote NO to recall all of the school board members.
Leah Harris, chair
North Lake School Board
