What do Oregon Shakespeare Festival, an upcoming movie starring Johnny Depp and the Paisley Players have in common?
This season, they are all producing the Stephen Sondheim musical “Into the Woods.” A cast of 19 students and community members will stage the play in Paisley School auditorium on March 6, 7 and 8 at 7 p.m.
Music and lyrics add moments of comedy to this magical adventure through Grimm’s fairy tales. As the play opens, a childless baker and his wife have been cursed by a wicked witch. As they venture into the woods, they encounter Cinderella, her prince, Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf, Jack, Rapunzel and other fairy tale characters.
The plot weaves mystery, intrigue and humor as the characters come to realize the power of community and shared sacrifice.
This year, the Paisley Players production is funded by a Lake County Cultural Coalition matching grant and community sponsors: Summer Lake Hot Springs, PSST, Playa, Paisley Mercantile, Dee Ann’s Beauty Salon, Ora and Lavonna Temple and the Paisley School.
Tickets are on sale at the Summer Lake Store, the Paisley Mercantile and the Lake County Chamber of Commerce: reserved seating $12 and general admission $7. Tickets will also be available at the door.
