Phyllis Gunkel, 95, died at the Lake District Long Term Care Facility in Lakeview, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 following a brief illness.
She was born July 31, 1916 in Farnum, Idaho to Joseph Smith and Edna Moselle (Wade) Cazier.
She was raised and educated in St. Anthony, Idaho and Oakdale, Calif. where she graduated from high school.
She married Ed Gunkel July 17, 1950 in Riverbank, Calif . The couple made their home in Lakeview following their marriage.
Mrs. Gunkel was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints,Valley Falls Grange for many years and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4070 in Lakeview. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and activities at the Lakeview Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Oct. 15, 2006; nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include sons Phillip and Edward Gunkel of Lakeview; grandchildren Sheri Chenier, Robert, Adam, Jenny and Joseph Gunkel; great-grandchildren Tommy and Zachary Silone, Aldina, Alexander, Johnathin and Bailey Gunkel; great-great grandson Benjamin Silone; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. The interment followed at the family plot at the Sunset Cemetery.
