The Pop Warner Mighty Mites, boys ages 7-9 from Lakeview that play football in Klamath-Lake County league, recently won their playoffs against the Klamath Falls Falcons.
This is the first time any of the Pop Warner teams from Lakeview have had the chance to play in the championships for the program, where they will face the Henley team for the league title.
The 16-member team of Mighty Mites won their game 32 to 28. Their coach, Shannon Ludwig, said of the group, “Every one of them contributed. They executed their assignments very well, and they’ve been exceedingly tough.” The Mites scored a final touchdown with 13 seconds left to go to clinch the win.
Though the Mighty Mites have yet to compete for the league title, which will be decided after a game on Saturday, Nov. 2, the fact that they have entered the championship means they will get a special trip to Corvallis’s Reser Stadium.
The event planned for the Stadium is called the Big Smash Jamboree, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10. Ludwig said the boys have played with determination and heart throughout the season, never quitting.
