A meeting open to the general public focused on a designed scenic bikeway located in Lake County will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, in Plush.
The meeting is slated to begin at noon at the Hart Mountain Store in Plush.
Late this past fall, a proposed 70-mile Lake County route received a recommendation for designation by the State Scenic Bikeways Committee. Public input is now sought in developing a formal plan for this route.
The proposed route traverses a variety of country, ranging from the Fremont-Winema National Forest to high desert and wetland areas. Sensory and visual quality are among the criteria considered for an ‘Oregon Scenic Bikeway’ designation, said South Central Oregon Economic Development District Specialist Audrey Henry.
Henry noted that the designation would be approved by fall of this year at the earliest, and the spring of 2015 at the latest.
At present, there are a total of 11 such scenic bikeways in Oregon, Henry said, but none in the southern part of the state.
