Roy L. Matchett, 85, passed away at his home in Klamath Falls, on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.
He was born in Kapowsin, Wash. on July 24, 1924 to Roy and Thelma Matchett.
After graduating from Kapowsin High School in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard serving in home waters and in the South Pacific and North Pacific Theaters during World War II.
When discharged in 1946, He returned to Washington State where he owned and operated a service station. On Aug. 8, 1947 he married Jeanne Munson, making their home in Puyallup, Wash. They later lived in Eugene where Roy worked for Oil Filter Service Company. Roy and Jeanne moved their family to Lakeview in 1957 where they eventually established a successful heavy construction company, retiring in 1991. Roy and Jeanne relocated to Klamath Falls in 2004.
Roy was also a licensed pilot who owned several airplanes over the years. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting and prospecting.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne of Klamath Falls: son Kevin of Jacksonville; sons and daughters-in-law Lee and Cheryl Matchett of Klamath Falls and Ron and Janell Matchett of Klamath Falls; Sister Delores Matchett of Klamath Falls; grandchildren Kristina, Derek, Jenna, Amy, Joel, Lacy, Sarah, Mary, Drew and Olivia; great-grandson Lian.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at Klamath Christian Center, 6100 Church Hill Dr., Klamath Falls.
