Ruth Christine Abramson Peterson Bechte

Ruth Christine Abramson Peterson Bechtel, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 18, 2013,

She was born on June 26, 1915 on a homestead in Berger, Idaho to Charles and Sylvia Abramson. At the age of four, they moved to Lakeview along with Erwin (Frosty) only one year old and launched the Rocking A Ranch, where she grew up.

Ruth loved gardening, canning and games. She was the ‘’Pinochle Queen.’’ In her later years, she played the organ when she wasn’t traveling and visiting her many friends and family.

She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1932 and after receiving “The Daly Fund Scholarship” she attended Oregon State University and graduated with a BA in business in 1936. During the summers she was a camp cook for a logging crew.

After college Ruth resided in San Francisco, Calif., where she worked at the Presidio staffing the Military Civilian Crew. Her father’s sudden death on the ranch called her back to Lakeview to be with her mom. There, she worked as a bank teller.

Ruth loved parties, and it was at a dance in Klamath Falls, where she met her future husband, Maurice O. (Pete) Peterson. They were married in 1952.  Pete and Ruth had two children, Gary and Susan and raised them on a small farm in Boise.

After the death of her beloved Maurice, Ruth was lucky enough to meet the second love of her life Everett Bechtel.  They were married on July 10, 1982.

Ruth worked many years as secretary in the Math Department at Boise State University. She was active in all aspects of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, and was a leader of Women of the Church for 54 years.  For the past five years, she had been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyside, Wash. where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ron Jetter.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Joan Peterson of Lake Oswego, Carroll and Alice Bechtel of Grass Valley, Calif.; son Mike Bechtel of Boise; daughters and sons-in-law Sue and Ron Jetter of Sunnyside, Susan and Jim Durst of Boise and Diane and Rich Powell of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren Clay and Andrew Peterson, Alex and Jill Jetter, Katie and Blake Durst, Andrea and Georgia Powell,  Chris and Brandi Bechtel and  Paul and Donna Bechtel.

Remembrances in Ruth’s name may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyside or Heartlinks Lower Valley Hospice in Sunnyside.
