In the OSAA Southern Cascade League 3A regional district wrestling meet on Saturday, Feb. 22 it was determined that the Lakeview Honkers would send seven wrestlers to the State Championship.
Those wrestlers advancing to the State Championships are sophomore, Tristan Ward at 120 pounds, junior, Mack Crandall at 126 pounds, junior, Connor Lysne at 132 pounds, senior, Nathan Harlan at 160 pounds, senior, Saul Ballaine at 195 pounds, freshman, Michael McCully at 220 pounds and senior Daniel Martinez at 275 pounds.
At 120 pounds, Ward placed third overall at Districts, winning three of his four matches, and scoring 16 points for the Honkers. At 126 pounds Crandall will continue to the State Championships placing 2nd overall at Districts, winning three of his four matches, only falling in the final matchup in the battle for first. Lysne at 132 pounds placed first place overall in his weight class winning every match he participated in and scoring 22 points for the Honker team.
Harlan, a senior placed third overall winning in the quarterfinals, but losing in semifinals, then to go on to win in the consolation bracket semifinals and continuing to the third place match, beating Nick Fozo of Glide. fellow senior Ballaine took seocnd place overall at districts falling in the championship match to Mikel Farley of Glide. Freshman McCully placed second place scoring the Honkers 18 team points.
There were other noteworthy wrestlers who also participated for Lakeview in the district competition. Sophomores Simon Ballaine placed fourth overall in the 170-pound weight class and Daren Cuff also placed fourth but in the 195-pound weight class.
This year’s State Championship tournament will be held the weekend of Feb. 28-March 1, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
