Seven LHS wrestlers qualify for state after district meet

An eventful regular season ends for the Lakeview High School wrestling team with seven of their team moving onto state next weekend.

Traveling to Coquille to wrestle on Saturday, Feb. 16, in the 3A Special District three finals, Head Coach Greg Kelley was ecstatic about the level of talent that they showed.

“I thought we had an outstanding district tour.”

Seven of the wrestlers ended up qualifying for the state tourney: senior Tony Frank, senior Dylan Amerson, junior Connor Lysne, junior Daniel Martinez, sophomore Mack Crandall, junior Nathan Harlan and freshman Edward Murrietta.

Placing third all around, right behind Glide in first and Coquille in second, the boys also took home second as the District All-Academic Team. This was thanks to sophomore Steven Hedlund with a 4.00 GPA, junior Connor Lysne’s 4.00, Tony Frank’s 3.9, Nathan Harlan’s 3.77 and Logan Cockrell’s 3.52.

“We wrestled our butts off,” Kelley said. “Coming in third and beating Illinois Valley was great.”
