Shamwalk/run to kick off Irish Days

Kick up some dust with the Shamwalk and race towards Irish Days.

The Mile Hi Striders will hold their annual 5k run/walk to kick off the spring celebration on Saturday, March 16. The Shamwalk/run is one of their biggest events of the year and will challenge the participants to make their way through a 3.2 mile course. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lakeview High School track.

Before the 5k, the Striders will also host a quarter mile fun run for children ages 2-8. Once around the track will prove a challenging race before the grown ups take to the street.

For adults, the cost will be $20 with a commemorative t-shirt and $10 without. The cost is $10 for children entering the fun run with a shirt and $5 without. There is a $60 family registration available for those living in the same household.

Five-k runners and walkers will be racing in ages divisions separated into under 12, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and above. Hats, socks, various running gear and other prizes will be awarded to the fastest feet.

Registration forms are currently available at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Holloways Photography, Back Yard Floral and Howard’s Drugs. The Striders indicated a preference to have registrations returned to them by the race, but they will also hold same day registration at the track from 8:15-8:40 a.m.

All funds collected will go to benefit the Striders and their continued efforts to support the local track and cross country teams.
