Shelly Marie Goodrich, 50, of Arcata, Calif. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 in Eureka, Calif.
She was born in Lakeview on Sept. 21, 1961 to Don and Mary Rosebrook.
While attending schools in southern Oregon, she excelled in gymnastics, track and diving, setting many school records. She moved with her family to Arcata and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1979 and later attended Southern Oregon State College in Ashland.
She married John Goodrich in 1984. Shelly had three wonderful boys, Shane, Casey and Cole. They were the lights in her life and she loved to spend time with them at Whiskeytown Lake, snow skiing, agate hunting on the beach, or at sporting events, especially soccer and baseball (never missing a game). Shelly spent many years making sure their lives were full and complete and filled with her unconditional love. Along with her boys, she adored her pets and always seemed to be nursing a stray back to health.
She loved canning, cooking and baking and sharing it with those she cared about. She developed many friendships with customers and co-workers while working at Westwood Market for over 30 years. Above all, she loved taking care of her customers and they will forever remember her warm smile, chatty nature and the extra care she gave them. For those who could no longer travel to the store, Shelly would make a special trip and deliver their groceries right to their door.
Pricilla Howard was one very special customer and neighbor who shared a wonderful friendship with Shelly over the years. Many good times were sent with all her “Murphy” cousins, especially with friend and cousin, Dana Holcomb.
She is survived by her husband John Goodrich of Arcata; sons Shane, Casey and Cole of Arcata; parents Don and Mary Rosebrook of Arcata ; brother and sister-in-law Donny and Jennifer Rosebrook of Mckinleyville; sisters and brothers-in-law Debbie Rosebrook and Dough Davis and Susie and Bryan all of McKinleyville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Liz Goodrich of Washington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Laura and Spencer Lloyd of Florida.
Anyone who knew Shelly also knows how she loved to spoil her much cherished nieces and nephews: Mae, Grace, Brook, Jake, Gwen, Georgie, Alex and Max, and of course, she is and always will be their special “fun” auntie.
A Rosary was held at on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at Paul’s Chapel in Arcata, Calif. On Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, a mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Arcata with Father Michael Cloney officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Sequoia Humane Society, 6073 Loma Ave Eureka, Calif. 95503-6869 in memory of Shelly.
