Software changes necessitate 9-1-1 computer replacement

March 19, 2014 by

Lake Emergency Telecommunications 9-1-1 Dir. Scott Utley updated Lakeview’s Town Council on forthcoming technology issues at the center during the Council’s Tuesday, March 11, meeting.

Utley noted that eight of the 9-1-1 center’s computer stations and four of its servers would not be supported by Microsoft as of April 8.

The supported software change will necessitate the replacement of these computers, Utley said, since the XP software will no longer be supported by its manufacturer.

“We’re looking probably at a pretty serious (financial cost),” Utley said.
