Soroptimists Honor Kathy Miles

Lakeview Soroptimist Club honored Kathy Miles with the Ruby Award at their weekly meeting at the Elks Lodge on Tuesday, March 11.

The Ruby Award, previously known as the Women Helping Women Award, is named after Ruby Lee Minar, the first Federation President of Soroptimist. It is an honor given to the woman who makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of other women through their inspiring efforts or otherwise had a significant impact on women in the community.

Miles was bestowed with a flower bouquet and vase representing the Ruby Award in front of the club while her vast accomplishments and positive influence on the community were read aloud.

Kathy Miles graduated from Sutherlin High School before pursuing higher education at Lane Community College, Linfield College, and Pacific University, acquiring a Masters Degree in education. She moved to Lakeview in 1996, working at Lakeview High School. Since 2006 she has served as the local Treasure Valley Community College branch director and a member of the National Council for Economic Education. Currently Miles is heading the Lake County Youth Mentor Program.
