Summer is nearly here, and with it comes the opportunity to join the Lakeview Swim Team for kids to compete all summer.
Sign-ups for the team will take place on Thursday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the AD Hay School Gymnasium. Kids ages 5-18 currently enrolled in public school are eligible to participate. Kids must provide their own swimsuit, cap and goggles.
“We had about 45 kids on the team last year, and we’re hoping for at least that many this time around,” said Teresa Decker, one of the swim team organizers.
Three groups of kids will be established based on swimming ability, with practices to be held in June after school is over. The first swim meet is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 in Prineville. Five swim meets will be held over the summer, including the district championship in August.
Events kids will compete in include the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and individual medley. Certified lifeguard coaches will be provided to train kids on swimming techniques.
The new pool construction is expected to be completed by May 30, just in time for swim team members to take full advantage of the new amenities.
“We’re really excited about the new pool being expanded to 25 meters, this way everyone who swims has standard times to qualify for district and state meets,” Decker added.
Additional information on meet and practice schedules will be provided at the sign-up meeting.
