Come Saturday night, it’s show time.
The Lake County Youth Mentor Program’s second annual talent show, known formerly as Lake County’s Got Talent!, is set for a curtain call on the evening of Saturday, April 13.
The event will be held at the Daly Middle School auditorium, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the competition scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available only at the door and are $7 per individual. A family pass is also available at the door for $20, for families up to six (two adults, four children).
Prizes will be awarded in each age category, with cash awards for the first and second place winners. Age categories include six to 10 years, 11 to 15 years, 16 to 20 years and 21 years and over. Bob Pardee is slated to serve as the master of ceremonies for the evening.
There is room on the bill for a maximum of 20 participants, and as of Friday, April 5, a total of 17 performers had signed up, said event coordinator Lynette Wells. The number was reduced for time constraints, as last year’s contest featured 30 participants.
“We decided to cut it down because it was so long (last year),” she said.
A special performance by last year’s winner, Alex Ball, is on the schedule.
Most of the entries for this year’s event hail from the Lakeview area, though Wells noted there is at least one entry from Plush.
Contest judges are from outside the area, and the largest group of performers are in the 11 to 15 years age group, Wells said.
Corporate sponsors for the event include U.S. Bank and CenturyLink.
The absolute deadline for entries is Wednesday, April 10, with a $5 fee. Entries received by Friday, April 5, were waived of an entry fee.
