Terry Velma Van Dever, 90, died in Lakeview on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011.
Terry was born to Clarence and Fern (Rouse) Van Dever in Brogan on Oct. 3, 1921. They moved to Lakeview when she was quite young and she grew up on the Westside family ranch. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1940.
After the outbreak of World War II, she worked as a welder in the Bremerton shipyards until she enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following her military service, she returned to the Westside and worked with her parents raising cattle and farming.
Knowing you are never too old to try something new, she took up the sport of skiing in her seventies. Along with her skiing, she thoroughly enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, horseback riding and looking for artifacts on the home place.
Her globe trotting took her to Europe, Egypt, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and all the states west of the Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Byron.
Terry is survived by son and daughter-in-law Tony and Lisa Swinney of Lakeview; cousins Schubal Lamb of Lakeview and Karen Gurney of Myrtle Point.
