Got a great singing voice? Play a steel guitar well? Not afraid of the bright lights? Always dreamed of becoming a country superstar? Live in Lake County?
If you answered yes to even half of these super specific questions, then you should go pick up an entry form for the Texaco Country Showdown from your local KORV radio station.
For the first time ever, the biggest country music talent show in America is coming to Lakeview.
Thus far, eight local talents have signed up to showcase their skills to the community on Saturday, July 6 at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Deadline for ticket sales and entry tickets end on the day of the showdown. Pre-sale prices for audience members are $5, at-the-gate tickets are $7, with kids under 6 free, and entry fee tickets for contestants are $20 an act.
Although the food vendors have yet to be determined, there will be food and drinks available for purchase, with the exception of alcohol.
The owners of KORV invited the competition to Burns before and had a smaller turnout than they are expected to have in Lakeview, with the current amount of registered competitors being more than they had in Burns.
The winner of the National tournament earns $10,000 and a recording contract, and is deemed the “best new act in Country music.”
Past regional winners of the event include Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Neal McCoy, Sara Evans and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Every year, more than 50,000 contestants compete throughout the nation at various levels.
