This month, the creative woodworking stylings of Bob and Kathy Nyquist will be showcased at the Charter Communications office building.
The duo established WoodQuest, a name coined by friend Stevie Ruda, as a nod to their last name as well as the ongoing quest for finding just the right type of wood for their creations, which can be found at Bloomer’s Country Nursery.
Bob’s efforts range from birdhouses to wall décor to furniture and barn wood desk organizers, with individuality key in every piece he creates. During the Christmas season, he particularly enjoys caring Santa Claus figures and gnomes from a variety of materials, including fence posts, tree knots and logs. A trademark item is a ‘Cowboy Santa,’ complete in detail right down to the hand-carved cowboy hat.
The couple moved to Lakeview eight years ago in a tri-fold quest for adventure, escape from metropolitan city life and an opportunity to be closer to their grandchildren.
A retiree from the world of real estate, Bob is a substitute school driver for Lake County School District No. 7, while Kathy, a retired teacher and media specialist, provides the finishing touches, such as paint, on Bob’s works.
