A group of visitors from all over Oregon were treated to a quick snapshot of Lake County’s tourist attractions for a day on Sept. 17. Arriving in the Lakeview area on Tuesday, Sept. 16, members of Travel Oregon’s Welcome Center program chose to hold their end of season conference here in Lakeview.
The Travel Oregon organization helps promote tourism throughout the state. One of the ways they help tourists is to fund informational locations called Welcome Centers, one of which happens to be the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
The group stayed in the Aspen Ridge Resort, and described their time in Lakeview as very enjoyable. Most were members of Welcome Centers in other cities around the state.
All in all, Centers in Ashland, Brookings, Klamath Falls, Ontario, Oregon City, Portland and Umatilla had members present at the conference.
For their travel-packed Tuesday, the Travel Oregon members-turned-tourists were treated to a sunstone mining demonstration by the Oregon Outback Mining Company. This was followed by tours of Feather Your Nest, Goodwill, Lakeview’s museums and other secondhand stores over the course of the morning.
“The stores in Lakeview were a welcome surprise,” said a member of the Ontario Welcome Center, “I loved the variety store and the coffee shop with its fresh-baked goodies. Everyone in town was so gracious and welcoming.” The group stopped at Honkers for coffee as part of their morning travels.
