Turkey Trot draws Thanksgiving runners and family spectators

On the cold morning of Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, 13 runners and their supporters got up early and went for a run starting at Steninger Track at Lakeview High School.

Some of the earliest runners to show were members of the Howard family and Brent Corning.

Corning, Ethan Howard and Caleb Howard ended up running a 3-man relay, each leg of the journey beginning and ending at the track.

They were the only relay participants for the day, covering 5 km all together with a time of 18:36 minutes.

The rest of the participants walked or ran a 5k course down around part of the Soroptimist Park and back, with Daren Cuff taking the lead early on and returning in front as well.

Cuff was aiming for a new personal 5k record, but was around 30 seconds short with a time of 20:22 minutes.

Prizes were drawn for rather than awarded, including a few dozen eggs, some Cornish game hens and a small turkey.

A few athletic socks were also given to the relay runners and top male and female placers, those being Cuff and Albertson.  Members of the Mile High Striders, a local running club, organized the event.
