The Lake District Hospital provided a venue for an outstanding health self-management workshop developed by Standford University. The Oregon State Extension program made it possible to bring this program to Lakeview by meeting licensing and training requirements for volunteer leaders to share in bringing this motivational series to a rural setting. Unfortunately, the program scheduled to start Jan. 8 was canceled due to lack of participants.
There are several explanations to mull over. We must rethink our ability to remind anyone who is dealing with medical appointments, prescriptions, poor food choices, lack of exercise, chronic aches, pains, etc. that better personal choices can be kick-started in group settings. The rewards of group input are proven. Our hospital is to be commended for supporting healthy living habits and preventative care as well as providing for our needs brought on by illness and injury; as is the OSU Extension for reaching out.
