Valentine’s Day quickly approaches and what better way to spend the holiday with loved ones than joining Lakeview’s Mile High Striders for their annual Valenteam Run/Walk. Beginning at the Lakeview High School track on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 9 a.m., the local organization invites those interested to start the weekend off with a rejuvenating jaunt through the romantic scenery of Lake County.
In the spirit of the day, the Striders encourage teams of two, whether husband and wives, relations or friends to join together in the competition. Splitting the usual 5K course into halves, the pairs will run in separate directions, only to meet up halfway and finish the race together. Once finished, the combined times will be tallied and the shortest time will win.
Both runners and walkers are more than welcome to attend and earn some exercise during the cold months. Should runners or walkers prefer a solo experience, they can go the whole length, half or as far as they can make it. Those who would like company the whole time are free to make their own way together.
Mile High Striders representative Melinda Howard said that they will additionally hold a number of drawings for various prizes including Valentine’s Day candy. Participants are asked to wear festive pink, red or white to commemorate the occasion.
With registration forms available at Howard’s Drugs, Holloways Photography and Back Yard Floral, the cost to take part will be $5 for Mile High Striders members and $10 for the general public.
